Equipment– Check.

Bags– Check.

Cardinal spirit– Never dies!

The Harlingen Cardinals have boarded up and are bound for Kingsville.

The Rio Grande Valley’s only remaining playoff football team squares off against San Antonio Madison at 7:30 p.m. Friday.

Head Coach Manny Gomez says the team hit the gym for a light workout this morning to get the mind, body and soul ready for the big quarter final game.

“Relax the mind a little bit … It’s the calm before the storm,” the coach said.

The team is undoubtedly pumped up for the ride on Highway 77 North.

Rocky IV plays on their bus TV screens.

But the real motivation comes from the coach’s belief, the Cardinals can truly pull off a victory for the Valley.

“It is possible to be a State Champion at any school here in the Valley… Just got to put that mind together… It is great to see the Valley come together as one,” Coach Gomez said.

The game is a sell out.

Action 4 News is exclusively televising the live coverage.

But this team isn’t focused on the high publicity, rather the plan in place.

@ASamBurton – The greatest challenge: starting with the solution, not the problem

Written on November 27, 2011 – 10:00 am | by Imogen Fahey

The greatest challenge with promoting literacy with ICT is that ICT may not be the most appropriate tool to promote literacy.

The issue here is that we are starting with the solution instead of the problem. We are asking: How can ICT help address low literacy levels? Instead of: How can low literacy levels be addressed?

This might seem like semantics at first, but there is a fundamental difference between those two questions:

This is significant because when we start with a solution already in mind, we tend to reduce the problem to only those factors that can be solved using that prescribed solution. In this case, weve been inundated with cheap hardware and e-content that hasnt demonstrated a concrete ability to improve literacy.

But, perhaps more significantly, the factors that our prescribed solution cant solve get left out as a result.

If You Blog It, Internet Traffic Will Come

Written on November 18, 2011 – 2:26 am | by Imogen Fahey

If you want to increase the amount of traffic to your website you can use blogs to do so. In order for blogging to work for you, however, you need to know how to do it.

One of the most important aspects of using blogs to attract visitors to your site is to make sure you place interesting content on your blog site. This content should be as relevant as possible to what you are promoting on your website.

The other aspect of blogging that is important is that you need to give readers content that they need. For example, if you list your top ten favorite foods and give the recipes to them your readers will want to keep coming back to these recipes. Not only that, but they will then want to go to your regular site where you will have additional cooking information available for view as well.

Blogging also requires choosing a writing style for the audience that you want to attract. For instance, if you want to attract working professionals to your blog you would use more of a professional tone in your blog entries.

STAND Strength Team teaches anti-bullying lesson

Written on November 15, 2011 – 8:21 am | by Christopher Tulloch

LAKE LINDEN — Students from Lake Linden-Hubbell Public Schools watched the STAND Strength Team rip apart phone books, bend metal poles and destroy baseball bats, but this wasn’t just any kind of show.  It was a part of an anti-bullying awareness campaign.

The STAND Strength’s message is to motivate and encourage students through positive teachings and demonstrations.

“We need to invest in the lives of our young people and teach them those good morals and teach them those good values of being respectful, being honest, being upright, having integrity, helping your neighbor, and caring for others,” said STAND Strength Team founder, Terry “Shrek” Nalin.

These muscle men have been around for nearly 20 years, and they perform at different schools across the country.

If you’re interested in meeting some of the athletes, they will be at the Glad Tidings Church in Hancock Friday night at 7 p.m.  The event is free and will continue throughout the weekend.
