Rio Americano teacher nominated for award

Dean Andrew Baird, a physics teacher at Rio Americano High School, was among six teachers nominated for the 2011-12 Presidential Awards for Excellence in Mathematics and Science Teaching by state schools chief Tom Torlakson.
Baird has taught physics, computer science and electronics, and physical science at Rio Americano since 1986. He is the recipient of numerous local, state and national awards, according to a press release from the California Department of Education.
The national winners will be named next year by White House officials.
