Universities with on-campus centers for GLBT (Gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgendered) students may have to provide straight centers that foster family values if a House budget amendment makes its way to Gov. Rick Perrys desk.
Offered by State Rep. Wayne Christian, R-Center, the budget amendment passed the House last week with a vote of 110 to 24.
Christian said the University of Texas, Texas A&M University and others subsidize centers that “teach alternative sexual behavior” and “alternative sexual practices, according to the Austin American-Statesman.
“If they’re going to pay for one, they need to balance it with the other,” Christian reportedly said.
Tony McDonald, president of the Young Conservatives of Texas, said in a press release that he suggested the amendments to Christian.
“It is clear that our public universities are funding centers which promote a radical political and social agenda in favor of normalizing homosexuality and expanding homosexual rights,” McDonald said.
