MLM Genealogy Lists – Your 2 Step Plan For Bankruptcy!

Ok so you have just spent your $200 odd bucks on your MLM genealogy lists and are ready to get started recruiting all those 5,000 ‘MLM people’ into your biz op.

Congratulations! You have just taken the first step to bankruptcy.

The 2nd step is to waste more money calling those people!

Haha only joking, I’m sure someone, somewhere has built a business on genealogy leads before? Maybe or maybe not.

So what exactly are MLM genealogy lists?

You’ve probably guessed I’m not a fan of such lists but what are they? Well they are basically lists of complete MLM downlines, often from MLM companies no longer in business. They show everything, from who sponsored who, to names and phone numbers of every distributor. Sometimes when an MLM company goes out of business they will auction off their list of distributors (complete with full contact details). Obviously this list could get into the hands of almost anyone, legitimate or otherwise.

The buyers will usually then market to the list themselves, then sell it on to other Network Marketers who are looking for a quick fix to their lead poverty problem. Just Google the term ‘MLM genealogy lists’ and you will find plenty of people ready to sell you their lists!

One of the big problems with such lists is the legal implications; it totally goes against the data protection and non disclosure documents that every distributor signs on enrolment. Never did they sign up to have their details carelessly sold to the highest bidder and then distributed goodness knows where.

Their details will arrive on your desk after travelling through a whole chain of information networks (mostly unethical) and when you call these people they don’t know who you are, they’ve never requested any information from you and most likely have previously been involved with an MLM deal that didn’t work out. Add the fact that by contacting them you are in effect breaking the law, which in itself can carry heavy penalties if you were to get caught. It’s not really the ideal prospect, certainly not what you would call a qualified prospect!

Aside from the reasons I’ve mentioned above there is another reason why I would not attempt to build my business from mlm genealogy leads, can you imagine the pain of sitting on the telephone for 8-10 hours a day? It’s the only way you’d be able to prospect these people, unless you invest in an expensive direct mail campaign, or you could email them and risk getting shut down by your ISP for SPAMMING. You also need to ask the question ‘are you an expert closer on the telephone?’, its takes a lot of skill to close warm prospects, let alone stone cold freezing leads!

When all is said and done I can’t see the appeal of these lists and I’d never recommend anyone to go down that road.

After all there isn’t really any need to, there are many different ways to generate leads for your business, especially on the internet. I just wish that more people would take the time to do a little research. Many new distributors who have just jumped on a new deal are eager to start building their business and fall prey to the unscrupulous people selling bunk, outdated, illegal information. Still that’s the world we live in. Just please make sure that you and your team never fall prey to the dreaded MLM genealogy lists!
